About Us

Expect to Hear about Jesus

You can expect a sermon that is solidly grounded in the truth of our Lord Jesus Christ. At Hillview, we long for people to “come grow in Christ with us.” We are all learning and growing daily in our love for the Lord, and our pastor leads us with expository teachings that take us through the Word of God verse by verse. Scripture is studied, taught, and trusted.

What We Believe

Hillview’s statement of faith is in keeping with the Southern Baptist Faith and Message.

Expect a Family Atmosphere

At Hillview, a friendly face and welcoming smile will be at the door to greet you and make you feel instantly at home. We are a small church, and we enjoy each other’s company. The fellowship of our church family is real.

Expect a Worshipful Service

We enjoy singing together as we worship the Lord with all types of music. We consider our personal heart focus to be the most important elements when it comes to corporate worship in song.

Expect Kids to be Involved

We believe one of our church family’s most valuable assets is our children, and we long to teach them well, to prepare the next generation to continue the work of discipleship.

Come Grow In Christ With Us

We are a committed body of believers intent on reaching our community with the gospel of Christ, making Him evident as we love each other and serve those around us. We are passionate about prayer, driven by discipleship, and focused on family.

Our Roots

Hillview Baptist Church began as Hillview Baptist Mission in 1989, established by our sister church, Dickerson Road Baptist, to fulfill the need to reach the northern area of Goodlettsville with the message of Christ. Our name was derived from the beautiful view from atop the hill where the church is located. Our church feels like “home” with good reason: It is a former residence which was converted to a beautiful church with the addition of a sanctuary and classrooms. On a deeper note, many guests and members have commented that their drive up the hill makes them feel as though they are actually “coming home” to a peaceful place of refuge, where they can regain their strength for living.

In 1995, Hillview voted to change its status from “mission” to “church,” becoming a member of the Nashville Baptist Association and independently assuming all its own financial obligations, retiring all debt the following year.

Hillview has seen many changes over the years. As we grow and stretch in uncertain times and an unsure culture, we are certain and sure of our need for Christ. We continue to reach into our community in a variety of ways, serving with love and faithfulness, desiring for all to come into a personal relationship with Jesus.

Meet the Pastor at Hillview

Rich Powell and his Wife, Rebecca

Rich Powell has been the pastor at Hillview since September of 2016. Before coming to Hillview, Rich has served as a missions pastor and as a deacon. Rich’s heart for missions both at home and overseas has led him to share the gospel in Brazil, Kenya, and Thailand, as well as on the streets in our community, ministering to the homeless population and as a board member for Rescue 1 Global, an anti-trafficking organization. Rich and his wife Rebecca were college sweethearts and have been married over 30 years. They are the parents of three much-adored grown children.
