Come Grow In Christ With Us
Well, if you are reading this, you are reading something new here at Hillview Baptist Church, you are reading one of our first blogs. Each week we will post a new message that will cover everything from where we are looking for God to take us, maybe what we are looking at from our sermons or in our Sunday School & Small Groups, or well, just something related to life and our community as Christians. We hope you will check back in periodically to see more of what is happening on the Hill.
So to kick this off, let’s first look at why we say “Come Grow In Christ With Us” at HBC. Simply put, we believe that as disciples ourselves in Christ, we cannot grow without Him.
As His Church, we believe that what Christ said to His disciples in John 15:5, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” was true then, is true now, and will be true eternally. At HBC we look to make disciples, to mature disciples, and to send disciples. That is one of our key hopes – discipleship, three-fold. The Church of HBC is committed to leading people of all ages to seeing the truth that apart from Jesus we have nothing, that everyone is spiritually bankrupt and that a faith in either anyone or anything outside of Jesus will lead to death.
The Seed and the Good Soil for Growth
That’s why when you come to HBC you will see a few consistent things, that we will not depart from in these days:
- Reading and study of the Word of God
- Worship centered on Christ
- Unceasing Prayer, both corporate and individually
Why? Because, in the reading and study of the Word of God, we believe that in the power of Holy Spirit, He illuminates our lives to seeing, hearing and knowing the One true eternal God. Because in our Worship of Christ, we are blessing, thanking and showing Him where we base our entire lives. Because through Prayer, we are lifting up and seeking, through petition, all of our hopes in Him.
